AUTHOR PIERO RIVOLTA
WILL BE AT MEDIA ON MAIN,
THE NEW CULTURAL HUB IN SARASOTA,
TO INTRODUCE HIS NEW NOVEL,
THE CASTAWAY

Media on Main: 1341 Main Street, Sarasota, FL 34326 tel. 941.914.9411
http://www.mediaonmain.com/

The event, open to the public, will be held on
Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6 to 7 p.m. RivoIta
will read excerpts in Italian, answer questions and
autograph copies of the book, while Richard
Storm will read from the English version. The
reading will be accompanied by a live classical
music performance.
The Castaway continues the story begun in Sunset
in Sarasota. The novel shows us, in RivoIta's
words, that "in today's world-so full of economic
strife and complex governmental intrusions-we
need to return to the common sense and simplicity
that guided our founding fathers. We need an infusion
of poetry in life, m books, in movies, in
the arts and even in government and business-
to make everything clearer and more real."

Annotation
A man adrift on a broken catamaran in the Gulf of Mexico is rescued
and brought to a care facility in the Yucatan run by an unconventional
Jesuit. The man seems to remember nothing of his past except his name.
To speed his recovery, the priest engages him in searching
conversations and introduces him to a captivating woman who runs a
school for children in town. As their three lives intertwine and their
secrets come to light, they become entangled in a complex web of
emotions. Told in poetic prose, The Castaway, which continues the
story begun in Sunset in Sarasota, is a fable-like meditation on the
nature of memory, beauty, love and friendship, and offers a profound
affirmation of the healing power of words.

The USF Italian Program warmly acknowledges the participation and contributions of its many friends in the Tampa Bay Area and celebrates the accomplishments of its alumni.
We welcome the presence of community members in our courses and at our public events and recognize that we would be far less successful in our mission without the generous presence of friends and alumni.
We welcome gift donations from private individuals, corporations, or foundations for research support, to implement our library holdings in Italian studies, to benefit our students with scholarships, and to possibly establish an endowment for a permanent professorship in Italian.
We are interested in being in touch with our friends and alumni and we thank you for your support.
